Alarms & troubleshooting

AC_FAIL (AC Mains Failure)
Rectifier Green LED off, Red LED solid on; SMU red ALM indicator illuminated
Utility grid blackout, AC input circuit breaker tripped, loose terminal wiring, or AC phase voltage below cutoff threshold (<85 VAC)
1. Measure phase and line voltages at the EPS200 AC input terminal blocks using a digital multimeter. 2. Inspect the upstream distribution breaker and the internal AC input miniature circuit breaker (MCB) to ensure they are closed. 3. Tighten all AC screw terminal connections, verify voltage stability, and ensure rectifier green Run LEDs return to solid on.
RECT_HVSD (Rectifier DC Output Overvoltage Lockout)
Faulty rectifier Red LED solid on, Green LED off; SMU red Alarm LED on
Internal voltage sampling failure or uncontrolled DC bus spike causing module output to exceed hardware protection limit (>59.5 VDC), triggering hardware shutdown lockout
1. Pull out the faulted rectifier module, wait 3 minutes for internal bus capacitors to discharge, and reinsert it to clear the lockout. 2. Access the SMU monitor menu to confirm float/equalized voltage settings are within normal range (53.5V to 56.4V). 3. If the module trips into red lockout immediately upon reinsertion, the internal power circuit is damaged; replace the rectifier module.
FAN_FAIL (Rectifier Fan Failure)
Rectifier Yellow LED blinking or solid on; SMU yellow Alarm LED illuminated
Rectifier airflow duct dust accumulation, foreign object obstruction, fan bearing wear/seizure, or loss of tachometer speed feedback
1. Pull out the affected rectifier module and visually inspect the front grill and fan impellers for blockages. 2. Clean the air channel and fan blades using an ESD-safe brush and dry compressed air. 3. Reinsert and latch the module securely; if the fan fails to spin or SMU continues to report 0 RPM, replace the fan assembly or the rectifier module.
COMM_FAIL (Rectifier CAN Communication Failure)
Rectifier Green LED flashing slowly (0.5 Hz), Yellow LED solid; SMU shows Comm Fail alarm
Poor contact on backplane gold-finger connector, loose SMU controller, open-circuit CAN bus termination resistor, or damaged module CAN transceiver causing polling timeout
1. Verify that the SMU02 monitoring unit is completely seated in the subrack and latches are locked. 2. Remove the affected rectifier and inspect the rear connector and backplane pins for bent pins, debris, or damage, then reinsert firmly. 3. Swap the module into a known-working empty slot; if communication remains unestablished, replace the faulty rectifier module.
LLVD_DISC (Load Low Voltage Disconnect)
SMU red Alarm LED solid on, audible buzzer sounding; LLVD contactor open state signaled
Prolonged mains outage causing deep battery discharge below the LLVD threshold (default 45.0 VDC), forcing contactor opening to preserve emergency loads
1. Restore AC utility power immediately or deploy a mobile diesel generator to supply the power rack. 2. Measure the total battery string voltage with a multimeter to verify deep discharge status and verify battery circuit breakers are closed. 3. Once AC is restored, verify rectifiers start up into boost charge mode; confirm the LLVD contactor automatically reconnects once bus voltage rises above reconnect threshold (typically 48.0 VDC).
