Alarms & troubleshooting

RX_LOS (Loss of Optical Signal)
Port LINK/ACT LED off, chassis alarm LED solid red
Broken fiber link, disconnected LC connector, remote optical transmitter disabled, or link attenuation exceeding RX sensitivity limit (<-31 dBm)
1. Inspect patch cord physical integrity and verify bend radius. 2. Measure incoming optical power with an optical power meter (nominal range: -8 dBm to -28 dBm). 3. Clean LC ferrule optical endfaces with a one-click cleaner and reseat the SFP module. 4. Check peer equipment TX power and verify the remote port is not administratively shut down.
TX_FAULT (Transmitter Laser Fault)
Port LED blinking amber or red, card alarm LED solid amber
Internal laser diode aging resulting in excessive bias current, driver IC failure, or module internal safety shutdown
1. Check the SFP DDM telemetry via CLI to verify if the TX Bias Current exceeds the upper alarm threshold. 2. Perform administrative shutdown and no shutdown on the interface to trigger a soft module reset. 3. Remove the SFP module, inspect/clean connector pins, and reseat firmly in the cage. 4. If the alarm persists, the transmitter laser is degraded; replace the ZTE 155M 15km SFP module.
RX_PWR_LOW (Optical Receiver Low Power Alarm)
Port LINK LED solid amber or intermittent amber blink, system alarm LED amber
Excessive optical loss caused by macro-bending, contaminated LC adapters/ODF couplers, degraded fusion splices, or link margin degradation (-28 dBm to -31 dBm)
1. Query optical module DDM parameters via CLI to record the real-time RX power value. 2. Inspect fiber cable routing inside the rack and eliminate micro-bends exceeding minimum bend radius. 3. Inspect ODF adapters and patch cord tips with a fiber scope; clean using specialized lint-free tools. 4. If attenuation remains below -28 dBm after cleaning, run an OTDR test to locate fiber span splice faults.
MODULE_OVERTEMP (SFP Transceiver Over-Temperature)
Card RUN LED normal, chassis fan/environmental alarm LED solid amber
High ambient equipment room temperature, clogged chassis air filter, fan tray failure, or obstructed chassis ventilation causing SFP internal sensor to exceed 75°C
1. Run CLI command to check SFP operating temperature against the upper warning/alarm threshold. 2. Inspect chassis dust filters; clean or replace clogged filter screens. 3. Check fan tray operational status and confirm all fans are running at normal operational speeds. 4. Verify telecom room HVAC operation to ensure ambient intake temperature is maintained between 20°C and 25°C.
CRC_ERR_ALM (CRC Error Threshold Exceeded & Link Flapping)
Port LINK/ACT LED flashing green/amber intermittently, packet drops observed
Optical power operating close to sensitivity threshold causing packet bit errors, contaminated LC optical interface, or duplex/speed mode mismatch on SDH/Ethernet port
1. Check interface counters via CLI to evaluate CRC errors, FCS errors, and link flap frequency. 2. Ensure matching speed/duplex settings on both ends (e.g., forced 155M full-duplex or proper auto-negotiation). 3. Unplug fiber and perform thorough dry cleaning on both the SFP receiver optical bore and the LC ferrule. 4. Optimize optical path attenuation using suitable optical attenuators to bring RX power into the sweet spot (-15 dBm to -22 dBm).
