Alarms & troubleshooting

INV_FAULT (Inverter Hardware Fault)
Fault LED (Solid Red), Inverter LED Off, Bypass LED (Solid Amber), continuous audible alarm
Inverter bridge IGBT driver failure, internal DC bus over/undervoltage protection, or DSP controller communication fault forcing transfer to bypass
1. Confirm bypass power is supplying the load stably without power interruption. 2. Access the LCD control panel to record active fault sub-codes and event history. 3. Attempt an inverter fault reset and restart sequence via the LCD menu. 4. If the alarm persists or indicates DC bus abnormality, transfer to external maintenance bypass, open input/battery breakers, and replace the power stage/main board.
BATT_DISCON (Battery Circuit Disconnected)
Battery LED Off, Alarm LED (Solid Amber), buzzer beeps once every 2 seconds
External battery cabinet circuit breaker open, DC power cable loose/unplugged, battery fuse blown, or voltage not detected during self-test
1. Check the rear DC breaker on the External Battery Cabinet (EBC) and verify it is switched ON. 2. Inspect the Anderson connector and detection pins between the UPS and EBC for secure engagement. 3. Measure the DC open-circuit voltage at the battery terminals with a multimeter to verify it meets specification. 4. Initiate a manual Battery Self-Test via the LCD front panel to clear the alarm status.
OVER_TEMP (Overtemperature Protection)
Alarm LED (Solid Red), Bypass LED On, Inverter LED Off, buzzer emits rapid intermittent beeping
Ambient operating temperature exceeds 40°C, front bezel air filter or rear exhaust choked with dust, obstructed airflow, or NTC sensor fault
1. Verify data center air conditioning and lower ambient temperature to the optimal 20°C–25°C range. 2. Inspect front air grilles and rear exhausts; remove obstructions and clean dust accumulations ensuring at least 100mm clearance. 3. Check if cooling fans are spinning properly at high speed. 4. Once internal temperatures drop below safe thresholds, the alarm clears and the unit transfers back to online inverter mode.
OUTPUT_OVERLOAD (Output Overload Fault)
Alarm LED (Amber Blinking/Solid), Inverter or Bypass LED Flashing, buzzer beeps once every 0.5 seconds
Connected load exceeds 3kVA/3kW capacity rating (>105% sustained, >125% for 1 min, or >150% for 200ms), or high inrush current from connected loads
1. Check the Load % display on the LCD front panel to evaluate VA and Watt load percentages. 2. Disconnect non-critical devices, printers, or auxiliary IT hardware to reduce total load below 90%. 3. Inspect downstream PDUs and branch cabling for partial short circuits or fault conditions. 4. Once the load is reduced below nominal capacity, the alarm resets and the UPS resumes normal online operation.
FAN_FAIL (Cooling Fan Failure)
Alarm LED (Solid Amber), buzzer beeps once every second
Cooling fan bearing locked, fan blades physically blocked by foreign object, PWM speed controller malfunction, or missing tachometer feedback signal
1. Visually inspect the rear fan grilles to identify which fan has stopped or is running at abnormal speed. 2. Check for loose cable ties, power cords, or foreign debris obstructing the fan blades and clear them. 3. With the system properly bypassed and isolated, inspect the 4-pin fan header connections on the control board. 4. If power is present but the fan motor fails to rotate freely, replace the Liebert ITA2 fan module assembly.
